No company is an island - vision and mission is not enough

by Jonelle Naudé

Organisations world wide are realising they can no longer proceed with the illusion that they operate independently from one another. Companies, like humans, often have unintended, but far reaching, impact on the systems they operate or exist in. As such, having a clear company vision and mission means very little when it does not consider and include the impact on the people, communities, geography and world it operates in.

The world needs systems aware companies, taking responsibility for both the externalities of its transactions: its intended and unintended impact. Many leaders believe this is not possible, too complex, or costly in today’s global economy. That is not true. In fact the opposite is quite true: organisations simply cannot afford to remain ignorant or unaware of their impact on people and planet any longer. And they no longer have to struggle in the dark and navigate these complex issues and journeys alone.

You can be part of the change - your organisation can be part of the systemic change that is wanting to happen. Companies find that their agility, efficiency and relevancy increase dramatically once they become more conscious and systemic-aware organisations.
